In my career, I’ve learned you must have clear deliverables and milestones in order to achieve your goals and execute on your strategies.
I normally don’t employ such tactics in my personal life, but since this blog is a combination of my career and passion, I might as well make some clear and actionable goals for the new year.
Goal #1: WWRD Series – Publish at least 1 post per month
I love thinking about solutions to problems and I love stepping into other people’s shoes to understand complexities. I started the “What Would Rose Do” (WWRD) series back in March of this year, but due to my expanded scope at work, I had to stop after just two posts (check them out: Dominos “Points for Pies” Campaign Is Outsourcing Research To Its Customers… For Cheap and Millennial Dads Help Solve Growth Problem With Nintendo Switch). In 2020, I will make a conscious effort to deliver thought-provoking case studies from my perspective (if I were in charge) every month!
Goal #2: Give back to the marketing community – At least 2X
This year I spoke at the GDS CMO Summit in San Diego where I shared “doing more with less.” There, I discussed with other marketing leaders how to think like a startup no matter the size and cycle of the business, and how to treat marketing (especially paid media) as an investment into future growth. I found the conversations exciting and stimulating. Every industry from finance to tech to retail had similar problems and we all wanted to learn from one another. With my diverse background, I was able to provide insights into driving a strong marketing org. In 2020, I want to do more for the community and speak on at least 2 more engagements.
Goal #3: Start the Renaissance Marketers showcase
I believe in the power of a varied background. Marketers who come from a non-traditional background and understand multiple disciplines are more powerful and innovative than traditionally trained marketers. I call this new breed of marketers the “Renaissance Marketers.” Much like their namesake, renaissance marketers understand customer behavior, product and design, technology, and finance. In 2020, I will start my Renaissance Marketer showcase to applaud and recognize the amazing marketers who think differently and have made a significant impact in their industry.
